IREX Italian Renewable Index

In 2008, Althesys started a daily stock index about the small-mid cap companies in the renewable energy business and listed on the Italian Stock Exchange. The Index rapidly became a benchmark for this sector.

The Index is published daily on our web site and on Ansa and Staffetta Quotidiana web page. It tracks the Italian companies operating in the renewable energies and energy efficiency, both in technologies and in power generation. The capitalization at the beginning was around one billion Euros.

The Irex Index considers fifteen companies, that generate power from renewable sources (wind, photovoltaic, biogas, biomass and WTE), operating in the energy efficiency and/or build renewable energy plants or part of them, gaining the majority of their turnover from this business.

In 2015 the segment of pure renewable marked out a good performance on the financial markets: indeed the index IREX grew up of 6%. In the first half of 2015 the annulment of the Robin Hood tax and the publication of the decree’s draft regarding the subsides for RES allowed the index IREX to arrest the fall started in early 2014.

In the second half of 2015, the index’s performance was affected by the negative trend of energy sector, fell down due to oil price reductions and precariousness in many countries exporter of oil and gas. However, in the last few months of 2015 the environmental’ agreements came out from COP21 meetings pushed up the index IREX.
